Freshlook Radiance Soon To Be Discontinued

Ciba Vision, the manufacturer of Freshlook Contact Lenses, has announced that the production of Freshlook Radiance will end December 31st, 2009. Lenses will continue to be sold on a “while supplies last” basis in the first half of 2010. Freshlook Radiance wearers who like the lens, are advised to stock-up prior to year-end to avoid disappointment.

Acuvue Oasys For Presbyopia

Johnson and Johnson, the manufacturer of Acuvue brand contacts are releasing a new lens in March. The new lens is the Acuvue Oasys For Presbyopia. This lens is directed towards patients who wear multifocal/bifocal contact lenses. The new lens seems likely to eventually replace the current Acuvue Bifocal, which is J&Js current lens in this category. What is exciting about the new lens is that it is part of the Oasys family of lenses, and is therefore a silicone hydrogel lens, and should offer the superior comfort and resistance to dryness of other Oasys lenses. J&J are also very excited about the optical properties of the lens. If you currently wear multifocal/bifocal contacts, you should ask your doctor if this lens might be something you should try.

Winter Dry Eyes Driving You Crazy?

Winter is the worst part of the year for dry eyes. Dryness can occur when tear ducts produce insufficient fluid or when blinking prevents proper tear distribution. Winter can increase these issues many fold with the operation of heaters that remove moisture from the air, winter cold “zapping” your eyes, among other problems.

Fortunately, there are ways to get around winter dry eye syndrome including the following:

- Adding a humidifier to your home is a big boost in stopping winter dry eye.
- Keep your eyes protected from blowing air, especially outside.
- Try dry eye drops like Refresh Eye Drops or other preservative free eye drops.
- Avoid red eye drops, as they tend to make dry eyes worse.
- If problems persist, see your eye doctor to make sure there aren’t any major vision problems.
