Breaking The Bank – More Ways To Save

Recently, Lesley Alderman at the New York Times wrote an article titled, Seeing Straight Without Breaking The Bank, about how to save on vision care expenses in this tough economic climate.

The article had some great advice but we’d like to offer even more money saving suggestions for contact lenses. On top of Ms. Alderman’s savings, you can receive additional discounts from manufacturer rebates, lower prices at other online retailers (including AC Lens), avoiding nickel and dime pitfalls, and other savings tips when buying contact lenses.

Manufacturer rebates are a great way to save. Both Johnson & Johnson and Ciba Vision have mail-in rebate offers for their most prescribed contacts including Acuvue Oasys, Acuvue Advance, Focus Dailies, and other lenses. J&J is offering up to $30 back while Ciba Vision has up to $40 in rebates on select contact lenses.

The article mentioned buying contact lenses online including 1800Contacts and drugstore.com. While their prices may beat your eye doctor, a quick search online would have shown even bigger savings at other retailers including AC Lens. For instance, Acuvue Oasys costs of $26 at drugstore.com and $34 at 1800Contacts were mentioned in the article but a quick online search would have shown ACLens.com has Acuvue Oasys for $25.95 with no hidden or handling fees.
