Using Insurance To Purchase Contact Lenses

When shopping for contact lenses, many consumers wonder if they can purchase contact lenses online with their insurance plan. After all, contact lenses are medical devices which require a doctor’s prescription, so it only would make sense that vision insurance would cover the purchase.

Thankfully, most major insurers provide reimbursement for Contact Lenses that are purchased online through out-of-network reimbursement programs.

How To Buy Contacts Online Using Insurance

First, you need to check and see if your vision insurance plan includes a reimbursement plan for out of network eye care providers. AC Lens qualifies as an out-of-network provider for the following providers.


  • Once you’ve determined which provider you have, and whether you’re eligible for out-of-network reimbursement, print out a reimbursement form (listed above). Purchase the contact lenses that were prescribed to you by your eye doctor.

  • Once your lenses have arrived, save your receipt, and fill out the reimbursement form that was printed. Mail, fax, or email the receipt and the completed reimbursement form to your insurer, and they’ll then send you back your reimbursement.
