Avaira – Cooper’s 2-week Silicone Hydrogel
There has been a lot of buzz recently about Avaira – Coopervision’s 2-week silicone hydrogel lens. Cooper is basically targeting Acuvue Oasys (J&Js market leading lens) and O2 Optix (Ciba Vision’s 2-week silicone hydrogel). Many doctors have commented favorably on the new lens, but Cooper faces a tough challenge because Oasys has had a 2-year head-start, and is loved by many patients. In addition, J&J has a very strong marketing machine that will likely continue to push the Oasys brand strongly this year. Is there a weak spot for Oasys? There have been “some” reports of blurriness after a day or two of use with the lens (see the AC Lens Oasys Customer Product Reviews) but the comfort is universally regarded as excellent.
